Established in 1990, Medwin Hospitals' - Jaya School of Nursing prepares the nursing students to meet the demands of health services. The students are trained to nurse patients suffering from leprosy, psychiatry, TB, Malaria, Tropical diseases, Community health, etc., for implementing the national health programmes. The students also undergo intensive rural training in PHC to understand the community in order to prevent disease and to promote the health status.

AIMS and OBJECTIVES

  1. To prepare nurses to serve the sick with tender care and compassion.
  2. To provide the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to enable them to give comprehensive nursing care to patients in all types of illness.
  3. To develop in the trainees, personal and intellectual qualities essential to be "Nurses par excellence".
  4. To offer oppurtunities to girls to take up nursing as a profession to be economically secure on completion of their training.
  5. To assist students where ever they go in their professional growth, to enable them to function in society as morally good individuals, citizens and nurses, and stand out as witness in the society they serve, spreading the values they have imbibed in the school.
  6. To help the students to practice themselves and to counsel others the principles of healthy living.
  7. To help the students to work in mutual co-operation with medical and paramedical personnel and participate in the various programmes for prevention of disease and promotion of community health.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

The nurses completing this course will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate awareness of, and skills required for the general nursing process in the provision of health care and nursing of patients.
  2. Apply revelant knowledge from the humanities, biological and behavirol sciences in carrying out health care and nursing activities and functions.
  3. Demonstrate skills in the use of problem-solving methods in nursing practice.
  4. Gain knowledge of health resources in the community and the country.
  5. Demonstrate understanding of commitment to professional behavior.
  6. Promotion of health, precautions against illness, restoration of health and rehabilitation.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

  1. Admission is open to candidates from all parts of India.
  2. Admissions are held once a year in the month of June.
  3. The Prospectus and the Application Form may be obtained from the
    Principal, Medwin Hospitals' Jaya School of Nursing,
    Medwin Hospitals, "B" block,
    Raghava Ratna Towers,
    Chiragali Lane,
    Hyderabad - 500 001.
  4. Duly filled-in application forms should reach the office of the Director, Academics, at the above address on or before the specified date.
  5. The duration of the course is 4 years. The candidates will be required to sign an undertaking to do the internship for one year on successful completion of the course. They must also give a bond to work in Medwin Hospitals for one year after internship, during which period, an honorarium of stipend per month will be given.

QUALIFICATION CRITERIA

  1. The minimum educational required is a pass certificate in Intermediate Examination or its equivalent, preferably in science.
  2. Unmarried/Divorced/widow without encumbrances between the age of 17 and 25 years are eligible. Upper age limit is relaxable by 3 years in the case if SC/ST candidates.
  3. A certificate of physical fitness from a registered medical practitioner is to be enclosed with the application.
  4. Good knowledge of English is essential. Students are required to learn Telugu to attain a working knowledge for dealing with the patients during their practical training.
  5. The completed application form should be submitted along with photostat copies of the following:
    a. Intermediate pass certificate or its equivalent.
    b. The memorandum of marks obtained in Intermediate or its equivalent examination.
    c. Conduct certificate from the Principal of the college last attended.
    d. Certificate of any other education qualification.
    e. Certificate of physical fitness from a registered medical practitioner.
    f. Four copies of recent passport size photographs.

NOTE:- Original certificates should not be sent along with the application form. Receipt of an application form does not imply acceptance of the candidate for admission.

SELECTION CRITERIA

The selection commitee will scrutinize each application. Performance in the Intermediate examination will be the basis for preliminary selection. Provisionally selected candidates will be called for an interview. The date and place of interview wil be intimated to the candidates by post. At the time of interview the candidates are also required to sit for an entrance examination. Criteria for final selection will be based on:

  1. Marks obtained in the entrance examination.
  2. Higher qualifications, if any.
  3. Health status of the candidate.
  4. Personal interview.
  5. Guidelines prescribed by Director, Medical Education.

The fee amount should be paid by the student at the time of admission to the cashier by
crossed "a/c payee" DD, drawn in favour of "Medwin Hospitals, Hyderabad".

PRACTICAL TRAINING

Practical training in Medwin Hospitals during the entire 3 years if study in the college is an integral part of the Bachelor Nursing Course and it is obligatory for each student to maintain a neat record of the nursing procedures in the form of Log notes viz, care of different types of units, cleaning procedures, comfort devices, positions, diagnostic procedures, collection and reporting of samples, diet, enemas - hot & cold application, artificial feeding, community health, bandages and binders, medications, care of babies, etc.

The sisters in-charge in the respective wards will observe the work of the student nurses and guide them to acquire adequate the skill. The schedule of assignment for practical training will be drawn up by the Princiapl, in consultation with the Nursing Superintendent & Director (Academics). The student nurses will be responsible to get the procedures' registers signed by the wards in-charge in due time and submit them periodically for inspection.

COURSE OUTLINE

Syllabus and the general course outline as prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council will be followed in the school. Any changes notified by them will be incorporated immediately for compliance. Class room and clinical instructions and Doctors lecture in various in various specialities will be given by specialists in the field.
