She completed MBBS in 1979 and MD (Microbiology) in 1986 from Osmania Medical College, Osmania University, Hyderabad, India. After MBBS, she worked as Medical Officer in Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital, Vidyanagar, Hyderabad for period of two years.

She completed my MD (Microbiology) in 1986 from Osmania Medical College, Osmania University. Thereafter, Dr.Hemalatha worked as Head of the Department (HOD) of Lab Services in C. C. Shroff Memorial Hospital, Barkathpura, Hyderabad, India for 3 years; Medwin Hospital, Hyderabad, India as HOD for 3 years. She worked in Libya, KSA for total period of 3 years, and rejoined Medwin Hospital as Consultant & HOD, Dept. of Clinical Microbiology, Medwin Hospital for the last 9 years.

She is involved in Research activities such as ‘preparation of purified protein derivative (PPD)' for Mantoux test, antibiotic disc preparation, occult blood kit in Stangen Immuno Diagnostics.

Her special interests are in Immunology & Mycology (especially in patients with post renal transplant). To keep in touch with recent advances, She has been a active participant in a wide variety of CME, conferences in India.

Dr.Hemalatha is the Clinical co-ordinator of Clinical Teaching for doctors at Medwin hospital besides being internal examiner for nursing students, BMLT, MAHE University. She also guide project works of M.Sc. at Dept. of Clinical Microbiology, Medwin Hospital. She is a Associate Professor, Microbiology, for medical students at , NRI Medical College, Chinna Kakani, Mangalagiri, Vijayawada.

She received 1 st prize for presentation at IAMM state chapter in the year 2000. She has been presenting papers and symposia at clinical meetings in Hyderabad and India. She was the Treasurer for INFICON, HIS conference in the year 2005, she has over 10-15 publication in national, as well as in 2-3 international reputed journals to her credit. She is also the Chief co-coordinator of Hospital Infection Control Committee.
